Terms used on this site
The vocabulary of custody and market structure is often used loosely. These are the definitions this site works from.
- Custody
- Holding and safeguarding assets on behalf of a client, together with the controls that govern who is able to move them.
- Segregation
- Keeping client assets separate from the firm’s own assets, so that one pool cannot be used to meet the other’s obligations.
- Order book
- The record of resting buy and sell interest at each price level, from which trades are generated.
- Matching engine
- The system that pairs incoming orders against the book according to published priority rules.
- Settlement
- The final transfer of assets and records that completes a trade and makes the change in ownership effective.
- Counterparty risk
- The risk that the other side of a transaction fails to meet its obligation when it falls due.

Position
A platform is judged by what it discloses, not by what it promises.
Compliance, controls, and operating discipline are documented here — including the parts most platforms leave out.
